Why Synaptic Four exists
I wanted a company that works with neurodivergent thinking, not in spite of it. And that shows this is not a kindness. It makes a real difference, human and economic.
How I found out
A few years ago I realised I am on the autism spectrum. I do not have an official diagnosis, and I do not need one to know that.
Since then I have learned a great deal. A lot of my past suddenly makes sense. I can also see more clearly how this has shaped my work.
I was lucky
With computer science I chose a field where my way of thinking is an advantage. I have been doing this for more than 20 years, most recently as a Staff Software Engineer. I was in places where I could be myself and learn. That is not a given.
Too often I see other people on the autism and neurodivergence spectrum who do not have that luck. It leads to problems they did not cause, and for which they are still held responsible.
What I believe
Every thinking style, neurotypical and neurodivergent, belongs to ordinary human variation. Some are less common. They are still normal.
When the setting fits, neurodivergent thinking brings real advantages, including economic ones. Inclusion is not only goodwill. It can also make economic sense. That is why I am building a company that works with neurodivergent thinking, not in spite of it.
I am speaking only for myself: one voice among many on the autism and neurodivergence spectrum. I cannot speak for everyone, and I do not want to. What I say comes from a real neurodivergent perspective. And this is not about me. It is about making neurodivergence an ordinary part of normal life, for everyone's benefit.
Why I look at things differently
“Solutions for problems others overlook” is not a slogan. I perceive my surroundings differently from the average. Not better, not worse, just differently. Sometimes that is enough to notice something that had been missed.
Working with me
I prefer clarity: in communication, in expectations, in results. Direct, honest, at eye level.
What I build
I build software for research and clinical infrastructure, plus consulting and training. Ferrum, Solum, BioResearch Assistant, HELIOS, and NeuroAttune came out of concrete problems, not out of a roadmap.
Part of that work goes into open research: specifications, validation reports, and implementations you can read. The cognitive map describes differences as positions, not as a deviation from a norm.
Open, and honest about it
Parts of the work are public, under MIT, Apache-2.0, and BUSL-1.1. Not as advertising. I want it to be possible to follow how I work. You can read the code.
I use AI as a tool. Judgement and responsibility stay with me. This website and parts of the products are made with AI support, not as a substitute for technical decisions.
What I am looking for
I am looking for a co-founder: ideally neurodivergent themselves, or with a close personal connection to it, who enjoys the customer side and building partnerships. Not someone whose main job is to sell.
And I am looking for first partners: teams or organisations with a problem that is still unsolved, and with openness to a different way of working.
